I'm Sorry and You're Welcome
Current mood: adventurous
I'm currently flying across the country from LAX to NYC to play some promotion gigs with John Mayer and I figured I would write a little blog, since the stewards on this plane frowned upon me running windsprints in the aisles. (On a side note: the spelling of "aisles" looks really jacked up. Were it not for spellcheck, I might still be scratching my head and wondering if I got it right).
I'M SORRY:
I was accepting friend requests just now and I inadvertently hit "deny" instead of "accept". (Between you and I, I think it was because I don't care much for the person sitting next to me and I was envisioning me "denying" him the ability to invade my personal space anymore.) The great irony is the fact that the very ones I want to apologize to will never receive said apology because I gave them the Heisman by accident.
YOU'RE WELCOME: (or......I've Got Shows In Different Area Codes)
Coming to you live and solo:
November 20th New York City Rockwood Music Hall 9:00
Apparently, its a free show so you can't buy tix.
Just show up and be over 21 at the same time. sweet.
November 23 Toronto, ONT The Supermarket 10:45
I know it seems late for a Monday, but that's how we gotta roll. I don't really like the cold, but you don't see me complaining do ya? I'm pretty sure tix are 10.00 and available at the door only. Bring 10.00 and be able to prove you're at least 19 years old. sweet.
December 21 Los Angeles, CA Molly Malones 8pm
I'll be splitting the hour with the incredibly talented Steven McMorran. (which means I have to be ready to BRING IT. He's pretty serious up there) Tix are 10.00 and you gotta be 21. sweet.
December 23 Atlanta, GA Smith's Olde Bar 8pm
It's actually billed "An Intimate Evening-Cabaret Seating" , which I think means we have to kiss and I have to wear a bustier or something. I'll do some research and get back to you. Tix are 20.00 and available here. Limited seats, as I can only kiss so many people with the H1N1 thing going around, you know. 21 and over please. (home) sweet. (home)
Oh. Almost forgot.
A bunch of folks have been asking if I'd be playing with John Mayer on his upcoming tour.
I'll be there. Same side. New gear.
Love is what I've got.
David

DRHWNJHC Part 4
31 July 2009 drhwnjhc part 4
For You*
Used To This
Turn Around
Pretty Girl (With or Without You, Let's Get It On, Whatever You Like, You're The Best I Ever Had, Sexual Healing, Dick in a Box, Your Body is a Wonderland, One on One)
Yesterday Shutting Down
Today Was Just a Dream
All I Need
Still Be Loving You*
*solo
rest of the show was full band (Michael Chaves, Sean Hurley, and Victor Indrizzo)
What a way to close out the month. Hotel Cafe was packed like luggage and the band brought the party. Pretty Girl was extra fun (TI and Lonely Island?) and Yesterday Shutting Down made it feel like a Saturday night. Today Was Just A Dream and Still Be Loving You are both new tunes, both beautiful. Can't wait to hear more.

Pretty Girl (The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, You Send Me, Slow Hand, Shining Star, Let's Get It On, Your Body is a Wonderland, Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, I Want You To Want Me, You're The Best I Ever Had)*
Sweetest Berry*+
Good Thing
*w Michael Chaves
+w Bob Reynolds
Three shows this month, three completely different experiences. DRH had MC Chaves on guitar and Bob on sax in the house. Beautiful stuff. Chaves jumping right in with the riff when David sang the line from "Wonderland" in "Pretty Girl" was classic. Bob's performance was indeed baby-inducing and "Good Thing" was a straight out par-tay.
David mentioned next week's show will include some of the new tunes he's been working on...
Sidebar - saw our buddy John Butler last night at the Troubadour. Tremendous show. Icing on the cake was the first song of the encore - a dedication to MJ, "I Want You Back".

Sorry for being tardy...and I don't have a note, so I guess it's one of those unexcused tardies?

*unplugged and un-mic'd

Very different show than last week in many respects. The crowd was so keyed in that David played "For You" from the front of the stage, sans amplification. I haven't heard "Do What You Want" or "Sign O' The Times" in a while. And of course, the presence of JJ Johnson on stage, off stage, in the room, in the building, in the city ensures a wonderful evening.
See you next Wednesday.

DRHWNJHC Part 1
10 July 2009 drhwnjhc part 1
Tonight was the first night of David Ryan Harris on Wednesday Nights in July at Hotel Cafe. The setlist:
The Way You Make Me Feel
Used to This
For You
Subterranean Homesick Alien
Turn Around (If You Think You're Lonely Now)
Be Beautiful
Pretty Girl (How Sweet It Is, You Send Me, Everybody Here Wants You, Let's Get It On, Natural Woman, Slow Hand, Your Body is a Wonderland)
Sweetest Berry
If I Had A Dime
(all solo, all hot fiyah)
The MJ cover was an incredible way to start off the night. David also played an inspired "SHA" as a similar tribute. I haven't heard "Be Beautiful" in forever ever... "Pretty Girl" had a break in the middle of the bridge - explaining it to those who weren't there would only be more confusing. Loved the solo in "Sweetest Berry". Also found out that "If I Had A Dime" is also titled "Bitch I Want Breakfast".
But the best line of the night was before "Pretty Girl" - to the fine, curvy girls: "...don't lose anything...but articles of clothing..."
See you next Wednesday...maybe we'll get PYT?

From The Mountains.......
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Blogging
Happy Belated Birthday Mrs. USA
I am happy to report that all has been well and productive since I blogged to you last. I've been up in the North Georgia mountains gathering my thoughts, song ideas, and generally getting my nature on.
I took a break last week to go down to Atlanta and Columbus (Ft. Benning) to play a couple shows. Thanks to everybody for coming out. I had a great time at both of the shows and I can't wait to do it again. It was humbling meeting the soldiers and some of their families at Ft. Benning. Thank you so much for everything you do. I was honored to be able to entertain you.
I am excited to get back to the big city of Los Angeles, my faith in three chords renewed.
I'll be looking for my Los Angelinos, Los Angelicans, and Los Souls to join me at Hotel Cafe this month EVERY WEDNESDAY at 9. Should be, in the words of Don Cornelius, a "stone cold gas".
My last blog was extra link heavy,
so i'll just leave you with one this time ------------------->R.I.P. Michael
peace, love.

I found the "post new blog" button on my myspace page again!
It's been SO long.
I have this thing that I do where I wonder who really wants to know about what's going on in my world anyway which results in Blog Silence which is then followed by me writing (typing actually) extremely long sentences void of punctuation that you have to read twice to get what I was trying to say in the first place.
I'm taking medicine for it though.
So......
I'm headed to Pittsburgh, PA on Saturday to play (open) a show with the talented and gracious Indigo Girls at the Carnegie Music Hall of Homestead on Sunday. I reconnected with the Girls this past year on Cayamo and I'm really looking forward to playing and seeing them play. Their new record is badass.
After that I'm off to a river house near the Chatahoochee River to write and record for a new David Ryan Harris record. (I know that last sentence seems like I was talking about myself in third person, but David Ryan Harris didn't really see any way around it). I have every intention of filming some of it so that you can see the progress, but don't hold me to it. There's something weird about taping yourself when you're all alone........at least that what David says.
I'm gonna take a break from my self imposed writing exile to play The Loft in lovely Midtown TheAttle (Rhymes with Seattle). I like saying "TheAtlle" more than "The A-T-L". Try it.
Again.
Cool, huh?
You can use it if you like (and I know you do).
Anyway, that show is on Friday The 26th at 8:30. I'll be joined by JJ Johnson on drums and Sean Hurley on bass. Good times.
After that.....the three of us are heading to Fort Benning to play a show with Edwin McCain for the troops and anyone close enough to hear it.
After THAT, I'm back to Los Angeles and reprising my residency at Hotel Cafe on Wednesdays in July.
I don't really know what happens after that, but if the medicine works, I'll let you know what's on my schedule as soon as I find out.
peace.

Holla!
Well it's been a minute, hasn't it? Ah, life just happens like that sometimes, but it's good to be back, and I have much, much to catch up on! :D In the meantime I've updated the diggety downloads on the right side of the page, and have a few more coming so hang tight.
And stumbling across this just made me smile, yo:
Source
What a great tribute. Man, I loved me some MJ. I still have my jacket and a watch from the Victory Tour and my Michael Jackson puffy sticker collection. (I am not ashamed.) RIP MJ. :(
Also, DRH has some shows coming up as I'm sure you've seen on his myspace page. Won't be able to make it to most, but if any of you take pictures and would like to share, lemme know.
Oh, and P.S. It's been over a year and people still come to this page everyday. At first I thought my eyes were lie-telling, but it is true! So thank you so much to all the DRH fans still spreading the love, and I'll try to do my part by keeping this updated.
Peace.

Cayamo Review
I read this great review about the Cayamo and Mayercraft cruises. It's really long so I've only included the DRH mentions.
Cayamo Day Three: "...After that Brenna and I went to see David Ryan Harris play a set at the Adriatic Lounge. We took the table right at the stage and after a few songs two women sit down next to me---it was Brandi and her mom, who were having a good time watching David perform. I had seen him 3.5 years ago, when he opened for Jamie Cullum but hadn't been able to catch any other sets of his, so I was happy when he was announced as a performer for Mayercraft and Cayamo. His set was soooo good. What a talented and funny guy. He told this story that if he were to be a Superhero, he would be 'Mister Emotional'. He even cried during one of his songs and made people in the audience cry with his beautiful lyrics. After the show Brandi went up to David, said a quick 'Hey' and ran off....at this point it was 2am so she was probably tired and didn't want to deal with fans. We also went back to our rooms to go to bed..."
Cayamo Day Five: "...After Brandi's set we went upstairs to the Lounge, where David Ryan Harris was due to play a set. I was upset that I missed Ernie Halter's set, but if I have to chose between Ernie and Brandi, Brandi wins. David's set was really good, I will definitely try to see him again.
Then we went to get some food, because I hadn't eaten since lunchtime and who did I meet outside at the midnight buffet? Josh of course Then we went to the Casino and stayed up until 3.30am, most people tried their luck gambling but I have been good and have not wasted any money on that..."
The blog is really a very well-written account of the goings-on and totally worth the read. Check it here: http://marinaiscruising.blogspot.com
