I'm Sorry and You're Welcome

I'm Sorry and You're Welcome
Current mood: adventurous

I'm currently flying across the country from LAX to NYC to play some promotion gigs with John Mayer and I figured I would write a little blog, since the stewards on this plane frowned upon me running windsprints in the aisles. (On a side note: the spelling of "aisles" looks really jacked up. Were it not for spellcheck, I might still be scratching my head and wondering if I got it right).

I'M SORRY:
I was accepting friend requests just now and I inadvertently hit "deny" instead of "accept". (Between you and I, I think it was because I don't care much for the person sitting next to me and I was envisioning me "denying" him the ability to invade my personal space anymore.) The great irony is the fact that the very ones I want to apologize to will never receive said apology because I gave them the Heisman by accident.

YOU'RE WELCOME: (or......I've Got Shows In Different Area Codes)
Coming to you live and solo:

November 20th New York City Rockwood Music Hall 9:00
Apparently, its a free show so you can't buy tix.
Just show up and be over 21 at the same time. sweet.

November 23 Toronto, ONT The Supermarket 10:45
I know it seems late for a Monday, but that's how we gotta roll. I don't really like the cold, but you don't see me complaining do ya? I'm pretty sure tix are 10.00 and available at the door only. Bring 10.00 and be able to prove you're at least 19 years old. sweet.

December 21 Los Angeles, CA Molly Malones 8pm

I'll be splitting the hour with the incredibly talented Steven McMorran. (which means I have to be ready to BRING IT. He's pretty serious up there) Tix are 10.00 and you gotta be 21. sweet.

December 23 Atlanta, GA Smith's Olde Bar 8pm
It's actually billed "An Intimate Evening-Cabaret Seating" , which I think means we have to kiss and I have to wear a bustier or something. I'll do some research and get back to you. Tix are 20.00 and available here. Limited seats, as I can only kiss so many people with the H1N1 thing going around, you know. 21 and over please. (home) sweet. (home)

Oh. Almost forgot.
A bunch of folks have been asking if I'd be playing with John Mayer on his upcoming tour.
I'll be there. Same side. New gear.

Love is what I've got.
David

DRHWNJHC Part 3

24 July 2009 drhwnjhc part 3

Turn Around
Do What You Want
For You
Used To This*
All I Need*
Pretty Girl (The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, You Send Me, Slow Hand, Shining Star, Let's Get It On, Your Body is a Wonderland, Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, I Want You To Want Me, You're The Best I Ever Had)*
Sweetest Berry*+
Good Thing

*w Michael Chaves
+w Bob Reynolds

Three shows this month, three completely different experiences. DRH had MC Chaves on guitar and Bob on sax in the house. Beautiful stuff. Chaves jumping right in with the riff when David sang the line from "Wonderland" in "Pretty Girl" was classic. Bob's performance was indeed baby-inducing and "Good Thing" was a straight out par-tay.

David mentioned next week's show will include some of the new tunes he's been working on...

Sidebar - saw our buddy John Butler last night at the Troubadour. Tremendous show. Icing on the cake was the first song of the encore - a dedication to MJ, "I Want You Back".

DRHWNJHC Part 2

17 July 2009 drhwnjhc part 2

Sorry for being tardy...and I don't have a note, so I guess it's one of those unexcused tardies?

Do What You Want (Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman)
Strong Enough
For You*
If I Had A Dime
Can We Get Down
Turn Around**
Sign O' The Times**
Good Thing**
Pretty Girl (You're The [Effing] Best, One on One, I Want You To Want Me, Natural Woman, The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, Sexual Healing, Let's Get It On)**

*unplugged and un-mic'd
**w/ JJ

Very different show than last week in many respects. The crowd was so keyed in that David played "For You" from the front of the stage, sans amplification. I haven't heard "Do What You Want" or "Sign O' The Times" in a while. And of course, the presence of JJ Johnson on stage, off stage, in the room, in the building, in the city ensures a wonderful evening.

See you next Wednesday.

DRHWNJHC Part 1

10 July 2009 drhwnjhc part 1

Tonight was the first night of David Ryan Harris on Wednesday Nights in July at Hotel Cafe. The setlist:

The Way You Make Me Feel
Used to This
For You
Subterranean Homesick Alien
Turn Around (If You Think You're Lonely Now)
Be Beautiful
Pretty Girl (How Sweet It Is, You Send Me, Everybody Here Wants You, Let's Get It On, Natural Woman, Slow Hand, Your Body is a Wonderland)
Sweetest Berry
If I Had A Dime

(all solo, all hot fiyah)

The MJ cover was an incredible way to start off the night. David also played an inspired "SHA" as a similar tribute. I haven't heard "Be Beautiful" in forever ever... "Pretty Girl" had a break in the middle of the bridge - explaining it to those who weren't there would only be more confusing. Loved the solo in "Sweetest Berry". Also found out that "If I Had A Dime" is also titled "Bitch I Want Breakfast".

But the best line of the night was before "Pretty Girl" - to the fine, curvy girls: "...don't lose anything...but articles of clothing..."

See you next Wednesday...maybe we'll get PYT?
