1) What's the first album you remember buying? CD, tape, vinyl, or 8-track?

the first record i ever got was the Jackson 5's ABC. it came on the back of an Alphabits cereal box. The first record I ever bought was The Time

2) Who would we be surprised to find on your iPod?

Hank Williams Sr. maybe?

3) All time favorite line from a song?

"Words are trains for moving past what really has no name" (Paddy McAloon) Prefab Sprout, "Couldn't Bear To Be Special"

4) Why are you a musician?

because it is what i'm supposed to be. I think we all have (at least) one God given talent with which we are supposed to make a living and serve humanity. So for me, it was either "Musicain" or "Self-Taught Neuro Surgeon"

5) If you weren't a musician what would you be?

Probably a teacher of some sort. I have a thing for jobs that don't always pay very well

6) How did your family react when you told them you wanted to be a musician?

"Duh"

7) Most embarrassing moment on stage thus far (when/where)...

Crowd surfing in Huntsville, AL when i was in Follow For Now. I made it all the way to the back of the crowd , but hit an empty spot in the crowd, and thus, I hit the floor (mic in hand)

8) What is something about you that would surprise your fans?

I tend to put it all in my songs, or in my between song banter, so I can't imagine i could come up with anything really that surprising

9) Which line of your own do you wish you'd never written (or are proud that you did)?

Proud of:
You can try to turn your right cheek if you don't like getting involved, but a problem is still a problem and to turn your cheek will leave the problem unsolved.

10) What inspires you?

Human connection

12) Do you have any phobias?

Doorknobs in public restrooms gross me out

13) Bad habits?

Saying "yes"

14) If you could be a superhero what would your superhero name be and what
would your special power be?

to be able to make people tell the truth

15) Mac or PC?

People use PCs because they have to. People use MACs because they want to. MAC all the way

16) If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

I could eat the Yellowtail Jalapeno sashimi from Matsuhisa until i turn green, which given my complexion would take a long time

17) How do you define SUCCESS?

Being able to support yourself doing something that you love

18) What do you hope to have accomplished in the next year?

I hope to have elevated my profile as a writer/producer and to have written/produced something that sounds like I feel whether its for me or some other artist.

19) Name two things you simply have to do in your lifetime.

Sky and Scuba dive. Same day. Yongala, Australia. Great Barrier Reef

20) What's the best advice anyone's ever given you?

If you're gonna make music for a living, do it because you have to; not because you want to.

You Oughta Be In Pictures...

So as you all should know by now, DRH and friends put it down at the Hotel Cafe on Monday, and I'm surprised I emerged from the experience with my face intact. It was that good. David will henceforth be known as the Reverend Harris because the way they worked Sittin On Top of the World had me dancing and clapping and shouting hallelujah like I was in church.

So you're probably wondering why I'm blogging for the third time today. Well, it's simple. DRH is bad ass. You all know this, yes, but guess who else is bad ass? Erik Thureson and his wife, Judy. Yes. Erik is a killer photographer (as you'll see momentarily), and Judy was amazing enough to hook me up so that I could hook YOU up! Aren't Rev. Harris fans the coolest? :)

What a day. After spending the day prepping for and playing a little private set with BOOYAHWHATDENAWWWCHYEAH(snap)'s other configuration, we rolled to Hollywood for the big Hotel Sauna (or Sauna Cafe or Sauna Sauna, point being it was WARM in that mofo) show. The kids came out like no shoes and were not disappointed.
We got HOLD MY FIRE early in the night, which set up one of the most rockin', deepest groovin' SWEETEST BERRYs I've ever heard. Bob added some sweet sweet saxiness. John jumped up for YESTERDAY SHUTTING DOWN and SITTIN' ON TOP OF THE WORLD (a Howlin' Wolf cover), all the guys trading solos in the latter and all the people soul-clapping in the former. DRH brought back the love to close the set (got to understand he loves the kids). A special night indeed for everyone in the room.

Ok y'alls. I've seen a lot of shows and talked a bunch of hyperbole, but tonight was something special. I can only assume it's a harbinger of the Mondays to come, but these guys together make magic. These songs, old favorites, had a completely new and different vibe thanks to BOOYAH. "Can We Get Down" ended with a singalong and a "that's the man workin' on your bed...springs." "All I Need" and "Used to This" were great all Chaves-ized. "Pretty Girl" was fun as always and included a little of the new Alicia Keys single. BOOYAH reverted to DRH for an encore of "Don't Look Down."

It was a special night, and there are 3 more coming up this month (if you were at home tonight, your November was only 25% ruined). Monday nights. Hotel Cafe.

California Shows

A repost of DRH's myspace bulletin:

Hey everyone!

Just a reminder that DRH will begin his Monday residency at the Hotel Cafe this coming Monday! Make plans to be there with DRH and bring along a friend- these are going to be three great shows that I know you won't want to miss out on and should fill up pretty early. Check out www.hotelcafe.com for more information! These shows are 21+.

Also, DRH will be performing with the band on Nov. 17th at the Temple Bar in Santa Monica. Tickets are onsale now at www.templebarlive.com and are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

On a slightly different note, a bunch of our street teamers and Myspace Friends from Phoenix and Los Angeles are going to be at the Suns/Lakers game on Friday in Phoenix, AZ. They have arranged a meet up of sorts to get to know other DRH fans in the Southwest and Cali. If you're interested in meeting up with the group and have tickets to the game, message me back here on Myspace and I'll give you all the info. I will be there as well and would love to meet you before enjoying the Basketball Game! If you are interested in putting together a meet up in your area, feel free to message me as well!
